3 TCM Tips to Help You Reclaim Your Calm

TCM and Anxiety: Three TCM Steps to Help You Reclaim Your Inner Calm 🌿

Anxiety eats away at quality of life and affects performance at work and in social settings.

A 2023–2024 university mental-health study found that 20.7% of respondents experienced anxiety symptoms, rising to 30.5% among Gen Z.

The TCM core of anxiety: blocked qi flow, with liver-qi stagnation at the centre.

1. Liver-qi stagnation|suppressed stress and emotion → qi stagnation → irritability, chest and rib distention, frequent sighing

2. Heart-spleen deficiency|over-thinking depletes you → spirit no longer nourished + spleen deficiency with weak blood → palpitations, insomnia, fatigue, poor appetite

3. Stagnant qi turning to fire / phlegm-heat disturbing the heart|prolonged stagnation generates fire and phlegm → bitter and dry mouth, worsening insomnia and excessive dreaming

Step One:

Soothe stagnation anywhere, anytime

💆🏻‍♂️ Acupoint massage + 👂🏻 auricular point pressure

💡 Acupoint: Taichong (LV-3) **(in the depression between the 1st and 2nd metatarsals on the dorsum of the foot)** — a key point for soothing the liver and regulating qi; massage for 3 minutes to ease tense emotions

💡 Auricular points: apply pressure to Shenmen, Subcortex and Heart zones — regulates the autonomic nervous system and eases palpitations

Step Two:

👩🏻‍⚕️ Tune the organs · Treat the root

Chinese herbal formulas*

🌱 Xiang Fu (Cyperus): soothes the liver, releases stagnation, regulates menstruation, relieves pain

🌱 Long Yan Rou (Longan flesh): tonifies heart and spleen, nourishes blood, calms the spirit

🌱 Zhu Ru (Bamboo shavings): clears heat, resolves phlegm, relieves irritability, stops nausea

(*Actual medication must be prescribed by a Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioner after pattern differentiation — never self-prescribe.)

Step Three:

Self-care · Boost the results

☕ Liver-soothing tea|5 rose buds + a little mint leaf → brew as a tea

✋🏻 In the morning, tap along the gallbladder meridian on the outer thigh (along the trouser seam) to help qi rise
